Ways to Lower the Cost of Motorcycle Insurance

Motorcycle insurance is something that can be made cheaper if you take the initiative toward certain actions that insurance companies prefer. Many other types of insurance can also be made cheaper in the same way, though owning a motorcycle is slightly different because of the obviously perceived risk.

Regardless, we sometimes hear about motorcycle accidents occurring more often than we should. That’s why you should take some time and think about what you can do to prove you’re a more conscientious driver. You also may want to consider not driving in the off-season to keep the idea you don’t take chances.

Completing a Driver Safety Course

Perhaps you feel you’re already an expert motorcyclist and don’t need a safety course. You shouldn’t automatically assume that because safety courses can teach you things you may have forgotten or didn’t even learn the first time. No matter how you feel about taking a safety course, taking one again will help in lowering your motorcycle insurance premium. Because motorcycles are already red flags to insurance companies, the fact that you’re taking the time to learn how to drive safely will show them you’re less risky than others.

Don’t Bother Owning a Luxurious Motorcycle

Unless you’re doing well in your career or are born with deep pockets, you’re going to be paying a high premium owning a motorcycle with expensive features. If you just use your bike for casual use, it’s really not necessary to have it adorned with every expensive feature you can find. Try to be more modest with your bike and only buy one based on the amount of personal use. You can still make a statement with a motorcycle that’s basic.

Keeping Your Motorcycle Safe from Theft

If an insurance company finds out that you leave your motorcycle sitting outside without any theft protection, your premiums will also go up. You have to show that you’re taking measures to protect your bike from being easily stolen under your nose. Parking in your driveway every night is already a sure sign of someone potentially stealing it away. Prove that you park it in a locked and secure place when not in use. Also, invest in an anti-theft device, which is plentiful for purchase online.

Bundling Your Insurance

Insurance bundles are a common way you can save money on many different insurances. In some cases, you might be able to bundle your motorcycle on your automobile insurance policy or even other policies. Sometimes you can even bundle everything in one package, depending on the insurance company.

Not Using the Motorcycle During the Off-Season

Simply proving that you don’t ride your motorcycle in the wintertime can save you considerable money on insurance. You sometimes have to request it in order to see any difference. And it might be a good idea to keep collision and comprehensive coverage on the insurance during this period just in case you decide to use your bike once on ice or snow.

When shopping for this insurance, it’s a good idea to try an independent insurance dealer that can provide plenty of options to choose from. This prevents you from having limitations through one single insurance policy. Regardless, no matter which insurance company you choose, you always need to prove that you’re taking the initiative to be a much safer driver than initially assumed.
